City Council losing 3 members this year

The Wayland City Council has lost three of its members in less than a month.

City Manager Erik Wilson said two new members were selected Monday evening in a special meeting. Megan Mickelson, a member of the Planning Commission since 2022, Justin Osbon, who serves on the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) Board, were chosen to succeed Norm Taylor and Jerry Jansen, both of whom have resigned.

Both Mickelson and Osborn will be eligible to seek a full two-year term on the council in the November general election.

The other council member stepping down is Grace Sefranik, who simply won’t seek re-election in November because the need for her to tend a family health issue.

So now there is one vacant seat on the Planning Commission and on the DDA Board.
