The City of Wayland and Henika District Library made it official Monday night with the sale of the adjacent parking lot for $1.
The lot immediately south of the library was owned by the city, but now there may be plans to expand the library. The grassy property just south of the parking lot also is owned by the library.
Library officials have indicated they are interested in expanding the more than 100-year-old building, which now is officially recognized as a Michigan Historical site.
In other business at Monday night’s meeting the City Council:
- Was told by City Manager Josh Eggleston that bid openings for farming the 48 acres next to the sewer treatment plant just north of town will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Eggleston promised the procedure will be straightforward.
- Learned from Main Street Director Holly McPherson that it was reported that 1,200 people visited Wayland last Saturday for the Snow Fest celebration, which included the annual parade.
- Was told by McPherson there are plans to have a sandwich competition among local restraurants starting Jan. 1.
- Held a public hearing on tax increment financing (TIF) plans and guidelines over the next 10 years for the downtown.
- Agreed adjustments in meeting location for Feb. 19 may be necessary because it may be accompanied by the nine-day voting period for the Feb. 27 Michigan presidential primary.
