City Plan Commission approves annual report

Only four members, barely a quorum, were present for the Wayland City Planning Commission meeting Tuesday night.

However, the group was able to approve the proposed draft for the 2024-25 annual report and work plan, which is required by the Michigan Planning and Enabling Act.

Absent from the proceedings were Mark Lyons, Keith den Hollander and Suzanne Hoek.

In other business Tuesday evening, the commission:
• Noted that the local Zoning Board of Appeals has been disbanded and its functions have been taken over by the cIty Council. Mayor Pro Tem Joe Kramer already already is serving as chairman and Mayor Jennifer Antel is vice chair. The disbanding was necessary because the ZBA claims only two members and as City Manager Erik Wilson pointed out that “It is difficult to get people to volunteer.” Furthermore, ZBA members must undergo training.

• Welcomed back former commissioner and city councilman Abe Garcia. Chairman JD Gonzales quipped, almost no one does that,” in noting someone serves in two capacities and later returns to do it again.
