Clem Reed dies just shy of his 81st birthday

Clarence ” Clem” Reed, age 80 of Shelbyville, died Wednesday, Oct. 8, in Kalamazoo.

Clem was born Oct. 30, 1944, in Plainwell, the son of Adolph and Madeline (Risner) Reed. He attended Plainwell schools and worked for many years for Angle Steel and Lawrence Industries.

Clem was an entrepreneur in his own way. He enjoyed riding motorcycles, ATVs and mushroom and deer hunting. Clem was a very generous and selfless man. His family was very important to him and he always put others first.

Surviving are his children, Brian, Brenda (Clifford), Brett (Mary) and Barry; seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren, his siblings, Clovis Reed of Martin, Sue (Dave) Shumaker of Plainwell, Wanda Morris of Plainwell, Jo Golden of Otsego, Jerry (Pat) Reed of Martin, Ruth Rhoades of Alamo, Donna Reed-Hall of Plainwell, Doug Reed of Martin John Reed of Otsego and Eric Reed of Martin; and many, many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Kenneth.

Friends may meet with Clem’s family starting at noon Monday, Oct.13, at the Orangeville Pentecostal Church until the time of service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, Orangeville.

Contributions in memory of Clem may be directed to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
