Conley runs sub 20:00 again; Martin takes 2nd

Martin ace junior harrier Veyda Conley came in second in Thursday afternoon’s Hartford Teske Invitational, as did the Clippers’ team in a field of seven in the competition.

Conley for the second time this season checked in with a 5K time of under 20 minutes, at 19:55.1 Martin as a team had 55 points, edging out Watervliet by three, but well behind Gobles’ 36.

Libby Smith of Gobles, also a junior, was individual medalist with a time of 18:42.96.

Conley’s supporting cast included a welcome surprising eighth-place finish by freshman Riley Bender. Allison Rodgers in 10th, DuRae Sage 12th and Sarah Schipper 20th. Senior Alice Kadlecova just missed the scoring cut in 21st place.

In the boys’ contest, junior Jadon Dettmann led the Clippers, taking 13th place in 18:45.5. He was followed by Hunter Hayes in 15th at 19:20.81, Gari Salvador-Garcia 16th in 19:23.3, Jeremiah VanHouten 28th in 19:57.67 and Lance Kaylor 31st in 20:52.29.
