Martin junior ace harrier Veyda Conley was individual medalist and she and her teammates just missed winning the Fennville Open Invitational Saturday at Fenn Valley Vineyards.
The Lady Clippers scored 68 team points, five points shy of Edwardsburg and one point away from runner-up Niles, settling for third place in the seven-team competition.
And once again, Conley broke that 20-minute barrier, finishing the 5,000-meter race in 19:44.12. She was the only runner to break 20.
Sophomore Allison Rodgers led the remaining Martiun runners who scored, finishing 11th in 23:17.3. She was followed by teammates DuRae Sage in 17th place, freshman Riley Bender in 19th and Sara Schipper in 20th.
There were 78 female runners in the race.
The Martin boys’ squad tied for seventh with Fennville in the 10-team field with 176 points. Edwardsburg also took top honors in the boys’ race with 36 points.
Junior Jadon Dettman again led the Clippers, finishing in 20th place with a 5K time of 18:56.08. He was followed by Gari Salvador-Gracia in 23rd, Jeremiah VanHouten in 34th, Hunter Hayes 39th and LoganTenBrink 78th.
