Wayland Union Schools will begin construction on projects at the high school in mid-June. The projects are part of the $19.25 million bond passed by voters in November 2017.

Twelve new tennis courts and viewing areas will be built at the location of the current tennis courts. Additional parking areas will be added, creating 66 more spaces. The high school exterior siding will be replaced with aluminum panels to match the Wayland Union Fine Arts Center and Science Wing.

Wayland Union Schools began accepting bids for the project last month. Construction on the above high school projects will begin toward the end of June with an estimated completion in late fall of 2018.

A groundbreaking ceremony will be held at Wayland Union High School at 7 p.m. Monday, June 18. The public is invited to attend. The ceremony will take place outside the high school at 870 E. Superior Street in Wayland near the south parking lot area.

The second phase of improvements at the high school will begin in the summer of 2019. Building renovations include: remodeling the media center which will include new furnishings and windows and areas for student collaboration; select restroom upgrades; security system upgrades; replace railings in main gym; and press box renovations.
