This isn’t the new truck expected soon. It was used to escort the WHS football team to its post-season playoff football game last November against South Christian. But it’s fair to say there a lot of similarities in physical appearance.

The Wayland City Council. Monday evening adopted a budget amendment, enabling the purchase of equipment that will be used on the new fire truck for the Fire Department.

Acting Chief Lt. Jeff Smith reported the department expects delivery of the new vehicle early this fall. He added that the fire truck it is replacing will top up on the auction block later this month.

It was also reported by Mayor Jennifer Antel that Wayland Township has come to an agreement for a contract renewing the agreement between the city and township for fire services, but details aren’t yet available.

In other business at the meeting Monday evening, the council:

  • Was told that Acting City Manager Gregg Guettschow and and a couple of other local officials will meet next week with representatives from Yankee Springs Township, which also contracts with the city for fire services.
  • Learned that Councilmen Abe Garcia and Norman Taylor will represent the city at the Michigan Municipal League meeting next week.
