Allegan County Commisioner (District 3) candidate Kathryn Bamberg, 60, died Tuesday, May 29, in Williamsburg.

Bamberg last fall was a Democratic candidate to be commissioner from a district that included the City of Allegan, Allegan Township, Monterey Township and Salem Township, and she worked most recently for Allegan County Community Mental Health Services. She most recently was living in Flint.

She was born to John and Sally (Smalley) Martin on Nov. 17, 1958 in Flint. She enlisted in the U.S. Army and worked as a paralegal for five years where she met her husband, Norman. Earning her dual bachelor’s from University of Maryland and then her masters of clinical sychology from Austin Peay University, she worked as a clinical therapist for 30 years.

Working with the stigmatized and marginalized of society, she saw the good in everyone she met. Kathryn adored her family, especially her grandson, Julian. She was so proud of her children and their accomplishments.

Kathryn is survived by her parents John and Sally Martin, her sister Elizabeth Martin, brothers Michael (Patricia) and John Martin; her husband Norman Bamberg; her daughter Jeneil Bamberg; her son Christopher Bamberg and her grandson Julian Bamberg.

Visitation will be held at Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home at 10 a.m. Friday, May 31. The funeral at 11 a.m. will include military honors.
