Allegan County Prosecutor Myrene Koch will review a report from the Michigan State Police  about the fatal shooting of Joseph Nagle June 16 in Monterey Township by an Allegan  County Sheriff’s deputy.

State Police submitted a report to prosecutors, with their findings in the police shooting death of Nagle, 22, after a traffic stop.

Nagle was stopped for suspicion of impaired driving on 26th Street, north of 134th Avenue and sobriety tests were administered. Police said that when Nagle was told he was under arrest, “he immediately began fighting the deputy.”

A single gunshot was fired during the struggle, striking Nagle in the chest area.

Relatives of Nagle have insisted he was not armed and had no criminal record.

Police have not yet released the name of the deputy involved in the shooting.

There is no police video of the incident because Allegan County Sheriff’s cruisers are not equipped with dash cameras and deputies were just being outfitted with body cameras in mid-June, when only about 25 to 30 percent of deputies had body cameras. The deputy involved in Nagle’s shooting did not have one.
