A credit card skimmer has been reported at the Marathon gas station on M-222 at the U.S.-131 expressway.

The Allegan County Sheriff’s Department indicates evidence of a skimmer was located Wednesday when deputies were summoned to a gas pump. They said the skimmer device was not visible from the outside.

Though the skimmer was found only at one gas station in the area, it’s not known if others have them.

Authorities advise motorists that if they regularly use a credit or debit/bank card, they should check statements often for any unauthorized charges. If they find any charges they did not make, they should contact their bank or credit card company immediately.

Authorities said credit card skimmers record card information from users and then use that information to use the card fraudulently. Those who have visited that gas station should check your credit card statements for possible fraudulent charges.
