Daniel J. Meengs, age 65 of Dorr, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, Aug. 2, from injuries received in a farming accident.
Dan was a devoted member of Vriesland Reformed Church and volunteered on many mission trips. He always took the time to visit the elderly, sick and bereaved.
His professional career was spent trucking on the road, exploring the country one mile at a time. Following retirement, he spent many happy hours on his farm in Dorr.
He is survived by his children, Jessica and Zachary Wetta of Chicago, Mike Meengs of Zeeland, and Jonathan Meengs of Holland; grandchildren, Samanthah, Nicholaas, Jeremiah, and Joel; siblings, William and Helen Meengs of Petoskey, Mark and Bonnie Meengs of Norton Shores, Mary and William Valkema of Overisel; mother and father-in-law, Tim and Annie Ferry Sr. of Solon, IA.; several in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Tami in 2013; a son, Samuel Meengs in 2007; and his parents, Lloyd and Gertrude Meengs.
Visitation will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 7, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St. Zeeland. A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 8, at Vriesland Reformed Church, 6839 Byron Road, Zeeland, with Rev. Eric Folkers officiating. Burial will be in Vriesland Cemetery.
