Henry Reinart, veterinarian at Pickle Street Veterinary Services in Monterey Township, posted on Facebook this afternoon, “I just received word from the Allegan County Health Department that there was a deer in Dorr Township that was found with EEE (Eastern Equine Encephalitis). There will be more information coming from the state regarding mosquito spraying, but in the meantime please get your horses vaccinated for EEE if you have not yet done so.

“You can call our office at 269/793-3050 to get scheduled.

“As a reminder if your horse is vaccinated by a veterinarian the drug company will guarantee protection. If you vaccinate your horse yourself, that guarantee is not valid.”
The news comes just a couple of days after a Barry County man was confirmed as having contracted EEE and is recovering at the Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Center in Grand Rapids.
Meanwhile, Martin High School’s varsity football game against Tri-Unity Christian was moved up from 7 p.m. to 5:15 because of Kent County Health Dept. guinelines in response to the threat.
