Dollar General faces citizens’ opposition in Monterey Township

Many believe Dollar General stores seem to be popping up almost everywhere on the landscape, but there apparently is one exception — in Monterey Township.

The Monterey Township Planning Commission voted unanimously Monday night against the company’s site plan for a new store in the rural township just north of Hopkins.

The local planning commission has been inundated with public opinions against allowing the store to come in, as numerous local residents have attended meetings to oppose the move.

Two Dollar General representatives Monday presented a plan to build on a property near the intersection of 30th Street and 125th Avenue.

Dollar General has stores in the City of Wayland, Wayland Township, Yankee Springs Township, Leighton Township, Dorr Township and in the Village of Martin.
