The Dorr Township Board this week held their first meeting in their new Township Hall along 142nd Avenue east of the downtown corner.
The Plan Commission met Tuesday evening at the old site at 18th Street and 142nd Avenue and the Township Board Thursday night. Both meetings featured spirited and sometimes chaotic discussion and debate about prospects for a Microsoft data center.
In other business, the Township Board:
- Learned from new Treasurer Sheila Reitz that Nancy VanderHart has been hired as new deputy treasurer. Reitz only last month succeeded Laurie Perry, who left Dorr to live in Arizona.
- Was told by Fire Chief Gary Fordham that the number of calls the department has answered this year already exceed last year’s total, with a month yet to go. The chief said, “Where we are now is the highest number of calls I’ve seen in all my years (on the fire department).”
- Approved a proposed intergovernmental agreement with the Wayland Area Emergency Services (ambulance) in the wake of Yankee Springs Township pulling out of the organization earlier this year.
- Was told by Supervisor Jeff Miling that the township received a check for $21,171 from the Gun Lake Casino as part of the agreement approved more than 10 years ago. The check, the largest ever for Dorr, covers six months.
