The new president of the Dorr Township Library Board and an added representative of the township on the Wayland Area Ambulance Service Board were featured in the more procedural business of the Dorr Township Board Thursday evening.

Rachel Vote introduced herself as the new Library Board president and reported that Barb Gibson is vice president. She succeeds Peg Otto, who left the district for anew residence.

Vote also told the board an announcement about the selection of a new director is expected next month in the wake of the departure of Natalie Bazan.

Penny Post was approved as a second Dorr Township representative to the WAEMS Board, for a four-year term. She joins former Township Supervisor Don Kaczanowski, who has been on that board “for as long as I can remember,” current Supervisor Jeff Miling said.

Trustee Terri Rios asked, “How does he (Kaczanowski) decide how to vote on behalf of the township?” as one of 13 voting members of the WAEMS Board.

Miling said Kaczanowski, because of his long-time public service in Dorr Township, has a good handle on what local citizens and officials want from their ambulance service.

Miling said he supports appointing Post to the board as well because “Penny goes to all the meetings and she wants to know what they are doing.”

Post has been an EMT for the last 12 years and she is a retired special education aide at Wayland schools.

“I think you actually need two people representing you on that board,” Post said. “I feel qualified because I’m an EMT.”

She said she and Kaczanowski have discussed issues together at the meetings before he has cast his votes.

Rios said she doesn’t like it that Kaczanowski has not provided updates to the Township Board.

“We can’t just have someone who is not reporting to us,” she said. “He doesn’t tell us what’s going on.”

Trustee Dan Weber said Kaczanowski, who is treasurer on the WAEMS Board, has made occasional communications to the board to keep officials abreast of developments.

The vote to appoint Post to the second representative seat was 6-0.

Miling added that if Kaczanowski decides in the near future to retire from his duties, someone with a lot of experience will be at the ready.
