Leighton and Dorr Township officials were introduced to new Deputy Sheriff Brandon Berens, who succeeds Ryan Rewa and joins Bernard Austof.

The Dorr Township Board, in a special meeting Thursday evening, voted 5-0 to accept the bid of $323,565 from Superior Asphalt of Grand Rapids for local road projects this summer.

Township Treasurer Jim Martin said he was delighted with the bid.

“It’s about $77,000 under what we anticipated (in the budget),” he said.

However, the township will have to pay 12 percent, or $37,719 for overhead to the Allegan County Road Commission, which brings the final bill to about $365,000, still less than the $400,000 anticipated in the budget.

The projects, covering a total of 2.9 miles and recommended by the special Citizens Road Committee, are:

• On Century Drive, 142nd Avenue to dead end, 0.41 mile.

• On Prairie Court, 18th Street to dead end, 0.15 mile.

• On 143rd Avenue, 18th to 17th Street and to 144th Avenue, 1.0 mile.

On Joan Drive,, Joan Court to 142nd Avenue, Janet Drive, Joan Drive, south to dead end, 1.15 miles.

Even better news is that the work is expected to get under way very soon.

Trustees Josh Otto and John Tuinstra were absent from the special meeting because they were attending the rally in Grand Rapids for President Donald Trump.
