Dorr Township is planning a sesquicentennial blowout for an entire week, from Sunday, June 30, to Saturday, July 6.

Besides celebrating its 150th birthday, it will observe the Fourth of July on that Thursday as well. The week will include carnival rides, food booths, concerts, a car show, parade, special appearances, and of course, fireworks.

Sunday, June 30

A classic car show/truck show will kick start the week at noon Sunday at the South Park. A Christian music concert, sponsored by CrossWind Church, will get under way at 3 p.m. at the South Park Stage.

Monday, July 1

A flag raising will take place at 6 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial and activities and games, including a Family Fun softball game, will be held at 6:30 p.m. Food booths will open at noon.

Tuesday, July 2

This has been dubbed “Pets’ Day” and carnival rides will begin in the late afternoon. Food will be available at the Silver Star Café, Michigan’s only veteran-owned food truck.

There will be pet costume contest and an appearance by the Allegan County Sheriff’s Deputy Blair and K-9 partner Edo from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Wednesday, July 3

Food booths and carnival rides will be available from dawn to dusk at the South Park, as well as a community flea market.

Michigan soul blues vocalist Nathan Walton will perform in concert at 7 p.m.

Thursday, the Fourth of July

A community breakfast will be offered from 7 to 10 a.m. at Dorr Christian Reformed Church. The annual parade will step off at 10:30 a.m. at the American Legion Hall on 18th Street and it will proceed west on 142nd Avenue past the two parks. Historic World War II fighter plans will perform a flyover during the parade.

Among the food will be the ox roast and Knights of Columbus chicken barbecue.

There will be a bingo tent from noon to 4 p.m.

Cal Klokkert will do a Johnny Cash tribute concert from noon to 1 p.m. at the South Park stage, KaR Tunes will take the stage from 1 to 2 p.m., followed by open mic karaoke. “Stolen Horses” will present a county music concert at 7 p.m.

Fireworks will commence at dusk.

Friday, July 5

Food booths, carnival rides continue and there will be a “Movie Night” at the South Park stage at 9:30 p.m.

Luke Lenhart & Friends will perform country, gospel and bluegrass at 7 p.m.

Saturday, July 6

Grace & Kylee’s Angel Dash 5K run/walk will be held at 8 a.m. at Bysterveld Park. The community flea market will take place between 9 aa.m. and 3 p.m. and food booths and carnival rides will be available for the last day. The bingo tent will be open from noon to 3 p.m. Disc golf will be played at 10 a.m. and a corn hole tournament will get under way at 2 p.m.

The afternoon’s activities will include an ice cream social, tug of war. Three-legged race, football bowling and a euchre tournament.
