Twelve Wayland Union High School students in the Business Professionals of America chapter brought home the gold last Tuesday at the 2015 Regional Leadership Conference

Eight Wayland students qualified to represent their school at the state level in March.More than 400 high school business professionals demonstrated business management, marketing and technology skills, and networked with others at Lake Michigan College.

The WHS students in the competition, and their places were:

• Olivia Dubay — first in Administrative Support Team, first in Fundamental Word Processing Skills, first in Administrative Support Concepts, second in Marketing, Management and Human Resources Concepts.
• Nicole Damveld, first in Small Business Management Team.
• Madison Anderson — first in Small Business Management Team, second in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications.
• Bri Cronk — first in Small Business Management Team, first in Fundamental Spreadsheet Applications.
• Kyler Koopman — second in Business Meeting Management Concepts.
• Christina Nguyen — first in Administrative Support Team, fourth in Entrepreneurship.
• Dav-Lynn Buttner — first in Administrative Support Team, fourth in Administrative Support Concepts.
• Alina Polyakova — first in Administrative Support Team.
These students will represent Wayland at the 2015 State Leadership Conference March 21 at the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel in Grand Rapids, where they will compete with students from across Michigan, attend workshops designed to aid in professional development, and gain valuable skills for their lives ahead in the world of work.

Top students at the state conference will advance to the National Leadership Conference in Anaheim, Calif., in May.
Business Professionals of America is a national career/technical student organization for business students on the high school and college levels with more than 54,000 members across the country. The organization strives to prepare a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.

Through membership in BPA, students gain valuable real world experience as they network with students and business professionals from across the state and nation, better their community through service-learning projects, and compete in demonstrations of their business technology skills on the regional, state and national levels.
