When Hopkins and Dorr Libraries Director Natalie Bazan left in March, Elyshia Schafer was selected as interim director for both. This week she was announced as new permanent director.

Schafer has a master’s degree in library and information science from Wayne State University. She earned her liberal arts degree at Michigan Technological University in 2010, with a concentration in English

Schafer grew up in the Hopkins area. She was a volunteer at Dorr Township Library over the last three years and has served as a program consultant, cataloger, assistant and e-reader expert. She had been teen librarian at both Dorr Township and Hopkins District libraries for the past two months.
