Esther Mae Harman, 89, of Shelbyville, died Monday, March 28, at her home.
Born in New Castle, Pa., on Oct. 3, 1926, the daughter of Earl L. and Mae E. (Elkblom) Lehew, she was a graduate of Bowen High School in Chicago. Esther worked as a telephone operator, later as an inspector at True Heat and went on to be manager of The Stables in Allegan. Her hobbies consisted of traveling, arts, crafts and a love for reading. She received an award for one of her paintings and it was displayed at the Chicago Art Institute for several years.
Esther is survived by her five children: Skip (Marge) Harman of Shelbyville, Clark (Karen) Harman of Holland, Pamela Lemmons of South Haven, Chris (Del) Temple of Shelbyville and Susan Harman of Shelbyville; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Jason) Enos of Otsego, Becky (Brian) Blaine of Otsego, Bill, Dan and Scott Harman of Holland; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, two siblings, two grandchildren (Earl L. and Renee M. Harman) and son-in-law (Bobby L. Lemmons).
Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan County assisted in her care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wings of Hope Hospice of Allegan, 530 Linn Street, Allegan, MI 49010.
