Former Watson Township Treasurer Stephanie Bogdan of Martin was in Allegan County Circuit Court Tuesday for arraignment on charges she violated terms of her probation.

Bogdan was arrested in November 2011 on charges of embezzlement from the township and the following year was sentenced to 364 days in jail and fives of probation, besides being ordered to make restitution. She said in court that she took the money to feed her gambling habit at the Gun Lake Casino.

She was ordered in 2012 to repay $127,225.13, which included what she’d admitted to embezzling and what Watson Township spent in its subsequent investigation.

When she was arrested, it was reported then that she had cashed 42 checks for more than $58,000 between March 2009 and October 2011.

When she pleaded guilty before Circuit Judge Kevin Cronin, she wrote a check for $50,000 as the first step in making restitution.

It was not disclosed what probation rule Bogdan had violated, nor what penalty she would face as a result.
