A Wayland Middle School student intentionally pulled a fire alarm Thursday afternoon, causing the entire building to evacuate, according to Middle School Principal Carolyn Whyte.

The Wayland City Police Department, Security Officer Matt Miller and middle school administration are handling the situation. All students and staff are safe and accounted for.

Authorities noted that pulling a fire alarm in a public place is illegal. Those who choose to engage in this type of activity will face:

1-Long term suspension or expulsion from school

2-Criminal charges/record

3-Fine for making a false alarm ($150+)
