A fast-moving storm dumped about a half inch of rain on Allegan County Sunday afternoon and left nearly 7,500 homes without power. A tornado siren was activated in Wayland, beckoning some residents to take cover in their basements. No tornado touchdowns were reported in the county, but there were straight-line winds of up to 70 miles per hour. The storm was fierce, but it wrecked havoc for only about a half hour. Authorities said a portion of 135th Avenue heading east out of Wayland was shut down to traffic because of a downed power line. Shown in this photo (cover) is damage in the Martin area.
