Allegan County Sheriff’s deputies are reporting a man was shot fatally Monday night outside his home in Monterey Township.

Authorities said they responded to a call just before midnight from Allegan Central Dispatch about a shooting incident at a residence near 130th Avenue and 30th Street.  Officers were told by subjects at the residence that an individual who had been visiting the home had shot one of residents outside and then fled the area.

Deputies found a man lying in the driveway who had sustained a possible gunshot wound and had suffered obvious fatal injuries.

They assembled information about the suspect suspect and a vehicle that was put out to other agencies in the area to look for him.  He has not been located yet and efforts are continuing to try to locate him.

“This is an ongoing investigation and we are very early in the process,” said a spokesman from the Sheriff’s Department. “It does not appear at this time that the general public is in any danger; however, we are actively trying to locate the suspect that was identified.  Further information regarding the victim and suspect will be released as it becomes available.”

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Michigan State Police, Gun Lake Tribal Police, Hopkins Area Fire Dept. and Wayland Area EMS.
