Five candidates have filed the necessary paper work to run for three open seats on the Wayland City Council in the Nov. 5 general election.

The five include three incumbents, Norman Taylor, Abe Garcia and Mayor Pro Tem Joe Kramer. The challengers are former Councilwoman Tracy Bivins and newcomer Eric Whittredge.

Mayor Jennifer Antel is unopposed.

All four seats are for two-year terms.

Five candidates also have filed for four open seats on the Wayland Board of Education, all four-year terms. They include incumbents Becky Hohnke, Dan Cassini and President Theresa Dobry, and newcomers Stephanie Tromp and Erin Stepek.

Eric Curry and Chuck Oxender are the two candidates for two seats on the Martin Board of Education. However, no one filed to succeed Board President Melanie Conley, whose two-year term is expiring.

In Hopkins, incumbent Karen Ryan, current president, will be joined by Ian Gibson and Steven Johnson in a three-for-two race.

Jonathan VanderWall is unopposed in his bid for another two-year term as president of Hopkins Village, as are Treasurer Tabitha Kennedy and Clerk Mike John Alberta.

However, there are only five candidates for the six open seats on the Village Council. They include Dawn Buist, Ben Williams, David Hyatt, Nick Pawloski and Phil Mullet.

At Martin Village, only one trustee’s seat will be contested on the council. President Gary Brinkhuis will seek another two-year term unopposed and Clerk April Taylor and Treasurer Alice Kelsey are alone on the ballot. But Joshua Visser, Ricky Martin and Ryan Bowman will do battle for two four-year trustee seats on the council.
