Downtown Wayland’s appearance continues to change, besides even the work on the newest local businesses, Aqua in Vino and the Jayda Gale Distillery on South Main Street.

Four new traffic signal poles are now in place at the main intersection of Main and Superior. Motorists already report they are much easier to see and it’s too early to tell whether or not the traffic the traffic sensor feature will be welcome.

The old Freda’s restaurant is getting lots of activity lately, as Cindy’s Boutique moves a few steps closer to Cindy Sebring’s grand opening. There is a new banner in the window, but butcher paper still taped up restricts seeing much of anything.

Cindy’s Boutique previously was in the old Wayland Floral building in the 100 block of West Superior Street. Taking over that facility soon will be a second hand and discount store, West Michigan Veterans Assistance Program, owned by Kay VanDrunen, which does fund-raising for disabled and other military veterans. It once was located next to Snap Fitness in the old Harding’s Market building.

Meanwhile, Jayda Gale distillery and restaurant is about ready to pour footings for the expansion to the rear of the building.

The storefront on West Superior that was next to Cindy’s Boutique, which housed Wayland attorney Patrick Burson’s law offices, was going to be sold recently, but the deal fell through. At least one large dumpster was seen there recently as the new owners were hauling out materials, prepping the building for something new.
