Former asst. Dorr fire chief Bob Neff dies

Former Dorr Township Fire Department Assistant Chief Robert “Bob” Lee Neff, age 77, died Sunday, July 20.

Bob served his country in the U.S. Army from 1967-1969 during the Vietnam War. He was employed by VanLaan Concrete Corporation for 48 years. Bob was the assistant fire chief for the Dorr Fire Department and had 29 years of service with the department.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and shooting sports. His attention to detail was evident in his meticulously maintained cars and manicured lawn, and he enjoyed tinkering in his barn with his devoted golden retrievers Bozley, Wrigley and Doris Day.

He was preceded in death by his parents Warren and Gladys (Dykstra) Neff. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathleen; daughters Nicole (Richard) VanNest, Sharae (Chris) Kaas; grandchildren Malyn (fiance, Tyler Armentrout) Ellens and Oliver Kaas; and many extended family and friends.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 30, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1871 136th Ave. Dorr, with Fr. Adams celebrant. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, July 29, at Cook Funeral Home, 2067 84th St. SW Byron Center, and from 9:30-10 a.m. Wednesday, July 30 at Cook Funeral Home. A Rosary will be prayed at 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Faith Hospice or Dorr Fire Department.
