Former funeral home co-owner dies at age 93

Alice Marie Brenner, 93, of Wayland, died Monday, Aug. 4, at University of Michigan Health West, Metro Hospital. 

Born Jan. 1, 1932, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Frances (Stukel) Plutt and was the wife of the late Norbert Switek and the late Kenneth Brenner.  Alice was a life member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Dorr. 

She, along with her first husband Norbert, owned and operated Switek Funeral Home in Hopkins for 20 years.  Alice later retired as postmaster in Hopkins.
Surviving are her children, Janet (Rick) Merren, Larry (Julie) Switek and Marlene (Jaime) Schaendorf; stepchildren, Burton (Kim) Brenner and Ross (Jodie) Brenner; grandchildren, Sandra Delao, Lisa Cassini, Nick (Kim) Schaendorf, Justin (Sara) Schaendorf, Rachel (Mike) DeHoek, Brooke (Bill) Brenner Romph, Taylor (Joe Marchesoti) Brenner, Trent (Jennifer) Brenner and Shelby Brenner; great-grandchildren, James (Amber), Carsen, Ava, Allison, Brady, Reese, Izabel, Cole, Austin, Parker, Rory, David, Oaklynn, Ward, Vivian, Evelise, Camille and Hannah; and great-great-grandchildren, Kash and Willow.
Along with her parents and her husbands, Alice was preceded in death by her sons, Paul Switek and Kenneth Switek; brother, Bernard Plutt; and granddaughters, Stephanie and Jennifer.

A memorial mass will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church with visitation beginning one hour prior.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery after the mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Project Hope Food Pantry, P.O. Box 241, Dorr.
