Charles Ronald Fugate Sr., owner of Fugate Storage at Gun Lake, died Monday, Oct. 7, at the age of 80.

Charles was born on Feb. 7, 1944, in Hindman, Ky., the son of Alex and Mollie (Hayes) Fugate Sr.

Charles owned and operated Fugate Storage at Gun Lake, where he came from humble beginnings to become a respected business owner. Known for his skill in working on boats and making boat covers, he was a hard worker whose selfless nature earned him the love and respect of all who knew him.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 58 years, Marilyn (Madden) Fugate whom he married on Dec. 10, 1966; his daughters, Patti Peets and Lori Rohde; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; siblings, Herma Dehn, Bill Fugate, and Jerry (Sharion) Fugate, along with many nieces and nephews.

Charles’s preceded in death by his parents, his son, Charles Fugate Jr.; and nine siblings.

Charles’ family will receive friends on Monday, Oct. 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home where his memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 15. Memorial contributions to St. Jude Children’s Hospital will be appreciated.
