Dorothy Jean Morton of Hopkins died Sunday, Nov. 22, at Laurels of Sandy Creek Maplewood Assisted Living in Wayland. She was 86.
Mrs. Morton was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Plainwell, the daughter of Arthur and Wilma (Satterlee) Baske. Dorothy was a 1947 graduate of Hopkins High School and went on to attend County Normal and Western Michigan University.
She spent 36 years of her career as a teacher in the Hopkins area. She also served as a librarian for the Hopkins Public Library, Hopkins High School and Hopkins Community Reformed Church. Dorothy was a member of Hopkins Community Reformed Church since 1941.
Since Dorothy didn’t have a family of her own, the Kerber families became a part of her life and spent many years loving and taking care of her, where a true family bond was made between them and brought much joy and happiness to all of their lives.
Friends may meet with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Hopkins Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at Hopkins Community Reformed Church, Pastor Jon Vanderwall officiating. Private interment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters: Betty June Baske and Mary Lynne Baske. Memorials may be made to Hopkins Community Reformed Church, 2142 128th Avenue, Hopkins, MI 49328 and Hopkins Public Library, 118 E. Main Street, Hopkins, MI 49328.
