Former teacher and FFA advisor Robert Brown dies

Robert Harry Brown, 77 of Watson, died Thursday, June 15, at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

Born Dec. 12, 1945, in Plainwell, he was the son of Harry and Elma (Clawson) Brown and the husband of Angeline (Weglarz) Brown.

Robert graduated from Hopkins High School, received a bachelor’s degree from Western Michigan University and went on to earn a master of agricultural education degree from MSU. Robert was a hard worker and went on to hold a variety of jobs. He worked 20 years at Rockwell International, then went on to teach high school and junior high at Hopkins for 14 years.

After teaching, Robert spent 10 years as a crop insurance adjuster and raised English walnuts and made maple syrup during his retired years. He was an advisor for the Hopkins FFA and enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, golfing, hiking, bicycling and traveling.

He and his wife were blessed with a son and they both enjoyed their small family and spending time together.

Robert is survived by his wife, Angeline; his son, John (Claudia Berríos-Campos) Brown.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Richard (Gloria) Brown, Janet (Jack) Buist, and Sandra (David) Harnish.

When ready, a memorial mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Christopher Derda officiating. Inurnment will take place at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery immediately following the mass.
