Dakota Huizenga, formerly of Hopkins is suffering from a medical condition that is affecting fewer than 1,000 people in the United States and his mother, Melissa Huizenga, is asking for any help she can get.
Jennifer Kitler of Hopkins, who is leading a Go Fund Me effort, “I have never done this before and I am having trouble figuring out how to get ahold of a news station multiple if possible. Dakota’s medical story needs to be shared, his condition is so rare.”
Dakota suffered from a large ischemic stroke to his right sided cerebellum as well as a small stroke to his left sided cerebellum, which resulted in him having locked in syndrome. The strokes stemmed from a blood clot caused by a combination of two conditions he has called Antiphospholipid Antibody syndrome and Budd Chiari syndrome which are rare as well.
“I really feel if his story gets shared around the world there are doctors who would want to be a part of his case and helping him progress,” Kitler said.
“I’d like his story shared in more than just Michigan news outlets. I know there are doctors out there who would want to be apart of his case if they heard about Dakota’s case because it is so rare.”
His medical journey and case is presented on line
On a public page called Dakota’s Road To Recovery.
His mother posts updates and pictures of him as often as she can/ It’s a great way to see his progress.
