Jacob Klein Jr., Jacob, 84 of Alto, formerly of Martin, died Monday, Jan. 8.

He was born to Jacob and Elizabeth Klein on March 22, 1933, and grew up on a farm near Martin, along with his younger brother, Neal. He worked for 43 years at the Keebler Company, where he often worked six days a week maintaining the machines and keeping everything in working condition.

Jake was an avid gardener, growing beautiful plants that he tended around the swimming pool and also in a large vegetable garden. He enjoyed camping with family and friends and racing go carts.

For many years, he was a volunteer with the Cascade Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years,  Betty; his sons Rudy (Sue), Dave (Jane); daughter Barb; grandchildren: Jesse (Angela), Steven (Holly), Jordan (Michaela), Gayle (Tim), Reid (Hannah), and Grant (Savannah) and his great grandchildren: Rylee and Bailey.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 11,  at O’Brien-Eggebeen-Gerst Chapel, 3980 Cascade Road, S.E., Grand Rapids, and one hour prior to the service at the church at 11 a.m. Friday Thornapple Community Church RCA, 3260 Thornapple River Dr. S.E., Pastor Tim Dieffenbach officiating.
