dirkDirk Weeldreyer, former principal at Martin High School and Middle School, is one of four finalists for the superintendent’s job at Grandville Public Schools.

Weeldreyer, who left Martin in 2008 to become superintendent at Fennville Public Schools, was listed with three other finalists to succeed Superintendent Ron Caniff, who has been hired as new superintendent of the Kent Intermediate School District as of July 1.

The other three finalists are Lowell Area Schools Assistant Superintendent Roger Bearup; Ethan Ebenstein, superintendent at Comstock Park Public Schools and Jay Kulbertis, superintendent of borth the Gladstone Area Schools and Rapid River Public Schools.

Weeldreyer was credited with overseeing a near-tripling of the district’s fund balance. Also during his tenure, voters the district’s first-ever sinking fund. He is a member of the leadership team for the Reading Now Network, which includes 100 members.

Weeldreyer’s career in education began as a high school teacher at Jenison Public Schools before took on the principal at Martin Middle/High School. He earned his master’s degree in educational leadership at Western Michigan University and holds a master’s of education degree from Nazareth College. He also received from Grand Valley State University an educational specialist’s degree.
