Former Orangeville Twp. Clerk Darlene Harper dies at 90

Darlene M. Harper of photo_20160620_WM0070529_0_20160620Shelbyville died Sunday, June 19, at MagnumCare of Hastings. She was 90.
Darlene was born Jan. 30, 1926, in Sheboygan, Wisc., the daughter of Edwin and Gladys (Fisher) Kolb. She was raised in Belvidere, Ill. When she was old enough she helped her mother who ran an adult foster care there.
She eventually moved to Michigan and in November 1963 married Robert E. Harper, who preceded her in death on July 20, 1991. Darlene was a very accomplished cook and baker and entered many of her baked and canned goods in fair exhibits and won many blue ribbons with them, some in the state fair as well as county fairs.
Darlene worked in a combination gas station and restaurant, as well as numerous office jobs and a credit union before marrying Robert. Darlene was the Orangeville Township clerk for more than 20 years. Darlene enjoyed traveling with Robert to many different parts of the country in their motor home. She also enjoyed playing cards with other members of the County Association of Township Clerks.
Darlene is survived a stepson, John Harper of Missouri, and special friends, Arliss Sheerin, Lee (Marian) Cook, Scott Holroyd and Sarah Holroyd.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Robert, and a son, Edwin Drumhiller (from a previous marriage). Darlene’s family will receive friends from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 25, at the Williams-Gores Funeral Home, Delton, where her funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m., Pastor Jeff Worden, officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to Bernard Historical Society will be appreciated.
