Former owner of the Avalon, Andrew Chlebana, 82, dies

Andrew was best known in the Gun Lake area as the owner of the Avalon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Andrew was well known for his outstanding homemade wine. Andrew was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Korean Conflict.

Andrew was the beloved husband of his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth; he is survived by his children: Cynthia, Roger (Robin), Roy (Andrea), and Matthew Chlebana; his grandchildren: Jamie Elizabeth, Dustin Joel, Lynsey Marie, and Austin Andrew; his sisters Julia Kotrba, Anne (Erwin) Doublestein, and Eleanor (Henry) Banas; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by parents Michael and Johanna Chlebana; his brothers Charles, Joseph, Michael, and Alex Chlebana; and his sister Amelia Peck.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 3, at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with Father Christian Johnston presiding, with a time of visiting from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church narthex

Interment and military honors will follow at SS Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery. Donations in memory of Andrew can be made to SS Cyril and Methodius Building Fund.
