Former ‘Rosie the Riveter’ Dorothy Wykoski of Wayland dies at 91

Dorothy Ann Wykoski, age 91 of Wayland, died Friday, Oct. 23.

Dorothy was one of the first women to begin work at General Motors as a “Rosie the Riveter” during World War II. She was also a woman of deep faith and was a longtime member of St. Therese Church in Wayland. Along with her immense love of family, “Mother Superior” had a wonderful circle of friends and threw terrific surprise parties.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Mary (Chris) Meehan, Robert (Susan) Wykoski, and Richard “Rick” (Stacey) Wykoski; her six grandchildren: Stefanie Schulze, Sarah (Tom) Carpenter, Adam (Abby) Laursen, Abby Wykoski, Hannah Wykoski, and Sean Wykoski; her sister-in-law Irene Pawloski; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; parents Vincent and Busia Eva Pawloski; and her brothers and sisters, Isabel Nausieda, Joseph Pawloski, Gene Pawloski, and Dolores Mazurkiewicz.

Friends may visit with her family from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 26,at St. Therese Catholic Church, with a rosary service at 8 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at St. Therese, with an hour of visitation prior to Mass. Interment will be at Resurrection Cemetery, Grand Rapids.
