Former Shelbyville man ‘OJ’ Johnson dies at age 85

Charles Otmar “OJ” Johnson, 85, formerly of Shelbyville, died Tuesday, April 25, at West Branch Regional Medical Center.
OJ had lived in Lupton since 2008. He was born to Paul and Gladys (Williams) Johnson on May 14, 1931, in Harvey, IL. He was an Eagle Scout and a Mason all his life. He was a retired teacher and taught school for 35 years.
OJ enjoyed breakfast with the Linger Longers at the New Sunrise Cafe and spending time at Terry’s Gun Shop.
OJ is survived by his daughters, Cindy Pratt of Lupton and Shari (John) Coyle of Rose City; grandson, Brian (Christy) Pratt of Canton; step-grandson, Jim Coyle (Ola); and sister, Mary Ellen DeYoung of Wayland.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 60 years, Doreen Johnson in 2014; and son-in-law, Larry Pratt, in 2011.
Visitation at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, April 28. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ogemaw County EMS. Arrangements were handled by Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in Rose City.
