Former Wayland Deputy Fire Chief Dick Kugelard dies at 72

Dick KugelardRichard E. (Dick) Kugelard, 72, of Gun Lake, died at his home Saturday morning.

Kugelard was a longtime member of the Wayland Fire Department.

The fire department posted on Facebook Saturday afternoon, “It is with deep regret that we share the information received that one of our former members of the Wayland Fire Department, Richard (Dick) Kugelard has died. He served for many years as a firefighterand deputy fire chief…
“Thank you for your time served, Sir.”

Dick drove truck for CCX for many years and served on Wayland’s Fire Department for over 30 years. In his younger years, he raced cars and had a love for the outdoors. His love for the outdoors never went away; he continued to enjoy hunting and camping, but most of all he loved to FISH.

 

Dick is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandy Kugelard (Seymour); his children, Gina Munch (Nick DeWeerd), Troy Kugelard, Creg (Cara) Kugelard; his grandchildren, Kayla and Kelsey Munch, Cyle and Alana Kugelard.19484_791941854192401_3878270574219015757_n

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Ada Kugelard and his sister, Norma (Marv) McBride.

A time for relatives and friends to visit with Dick’s family will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kubiak-Cook Funeral Services in Wayland, 312 N. Main St. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at the funeral home. Interment will be at Elmwood Cemetery.

In honor of Dick, contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
