Word has been received of the death Sunday July 9, in Bradenton, Fla., of Walter Alflen, formerly of Wayland. He was 93.

Known as a terrific husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Walt he was with family when he died at his home. His wife, former City Clerk Helen Alflen, was by his side. The Alflens were looking forward to their 68th wedding anniversary.

The Alflens were members of St Therese for many years & Saint Peter & Paul, Bradenton, Fla.

A Korean War vet of the 35th Regiment’s Tank CO. As a finish carpenter, many benefited from his expertise.

He is survived by wife, Helen, daughter Anita (Jeff) Cordes, son Ken (Kristi), four grandchildren, Jared (Melissa) Cordes, Alaina (Justin) Fanney, Karlie & Kassidy Alflen, and three great-grandchildren, Calvin & Clark Cordes, Maisie Fanney, many nieces & nephews.

Walt will be laid to rest at Sarasota Natl. Cemetery, Sarasota, FL. Celebration of life will be held at a later date.
