Word has been received of the death of former Wayland Police Chief Harold A. Ernst, who most recently was living in McAllen, Texas. Mr. Ernst was 95.

He was Wayland’s chief from 1973 to 1985, when he retired and was succeeded by Dan Miller. Before that, he had been commander of the Wayland post of the Michigan State Police.

His two children both were graduates of Wayland High School.
