Former Wayland school bus driver dies at age 72

Elaine Mae (Perkins) Corner, 72, of Hastings, died Thursday, July 11, due to complications of COPD.

Elaine was born in Grand Rapids, to the late William and Jacolyn (Sharp) Perkins. She retired from Steelcase and in her golden years drove a bus for Wayland Union Schools.

Surviving are her children, Dan Corner, Pam Pastoor, Melissa (Jack) Farmer Jr., Ann Corner, and Kim Disinger; seven grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; siblings, Ray Perkins, Bill (Rannae) Perkins Jr., and Bonnie (Dino) Pezzato Jr.; and many extended loved ones.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Corner; her parents; and brother, Stan Perkins.

In remembrance of Elaine, donations may be given to Meals on Wheels of Grand Rapids or a charity of your choice.

Per Elaine’s wishes cremation has taken place and no service will be held at this time.
