Former Wayland State Trooper Richard J. Largent died Thursday. He was 74.

Largent received the Meritorious Service Award and three Michigan Law Enforcement Blockade Awards during his service of more than 25 years with the Michigan State Police. After serving, he opened Target Investigations and eventually retired in 2014.

Born March 23, 1943, in Lansing, he lived life to the fullest, fiercely loved and cherished his time with family and friends. His sense of humor, charm, and infectious laugh will be remembered and missed. He loved good wine, great food, and a great dirty joke!

He is survived by his wife, Evelyn, of 45 years; children, Robert Barker (Kanoe), Angela Largent Keen, Tim Largent (Bobbi), Nathan Largent (Mari), Tamara Pitts (Logan), Dawn Schultz (Jeff); 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother and sisters, Jerry Largent (Dolly), Darlene Komm (Gerhard), Charlene Bailey (Bill), and his beloved dog, Mika.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Alvin Largent; mother, Bernadine Edith Deyarmond, and brother, Michael Largent.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12,  at Kentwood Community Church, 1200 60th St. Guests may arrive to pay respects to the family an hour prior. Please use door entrance I to enter the facility.
