Former Wayland Township Clerk Beverly Taylor dies

Former Wayland Township Clerk Beverly R. Taylor (Jillett), died late Friday night in her home at Gun Lake. She was 84.

She was born Dec. 3, 1935, to George and Amelia Gillette. She married Floyd Taylor in 1953.

Beverly was a lifelong member of SS. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, where she taught CCD for many years. She was the Wayland Township Clerk for 20 years, retiring in 2012. She loved reading, knitting and crocheting, jigsaw puzzles, her afternoon soap, and spending time with her loved ones and friends.

She is survived by her son, Craig Taylor; daughter, Merrilee-Darrell Slawson; grandchildren Steve-Mirella Slawson, Stephanie-Jacob Wrisley, Joshua Turcott; great-grandchildren Channing Dobbs, Jace and Ava Slawson; and multiple nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Taylor; son, Jerry Taylor; parents George and Amelia Gillette; sister, Carolyn Keech; and grandson, Michael Slawson.

Due to the COVID-19 crisis, Beverly’s family asks that flowers not be sent. There will be an intimate graveside service held at a date to be determined.
