Three-way stop returns to U.S.-131 overpass at Dorr exit

The stop sign that used to be at the overpass on U.S.-131 at the Dorr exit has returned after a brief, but controversial hiatus. Many motorists have complained that they cannot see oncoming traffic on 142nd Avenue because of a hill, so now it’s a three-way stop. It was taken out several years ago because semi-trucks had difficulty starting and stopping, especially during winter months. (Photo courtesy of Kim Miller Powers)

A half measure, we need a light sooner rather than latter. Lots of new traffic coming to that intersection, much more. The county needs to fix this it is their road and they need to solve the problem.

Mr Traxler, you are right on!
The light needs to be placed at the east side of the overpass, installing it on the west side would be unwise as the downslope would allow vehicles to have issues stopping on wet and slippery surface conditions, especially in winter. Now that I laid out the reasonable and safer place to put it, I realize it will be installed on the west side knowing MDOT and Allegan road commision engineering. We need the light now before lives are lost on that dangerous stretch of roadway.

Yes we need a light not stop signs…but since we all know how the County and State operate.
It wouldn’t surprise me if they lowered the bridge so it would be a flatter safer approach.
