Free tax assistance program called off for Feb. 14 and March 7

Free tax preparaUnited Way Clip Arttion sessions offered through the Allegan County United Way and United bank by the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance have been canceled.

Two sessions had been scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 14, and Saturday, March 7, at Steeby Elementary School in Wayland, but because an unexpected loss of certified personnel, they had to be called off.

The Penasee Globe has reported that free tax preparation is available online for persons whose income is less than $60,000, at www.MyFreeTaxes.org. Local libraries have computers and internet service that patrons can use to file taxes with My Free Taxes.

The VITA program is offered to low to moderate income individuals can get their 2014 federal and state tax prep done for free. Participants must have combined incomes of $53,000 or less to qualify.

Those still planning to use the VITA the program elsewhere should bring photo identification, valid Social Security cards for selves, spouses and dependents, wage and earning statements (Forms W-2, W-2G and 1099R), bank routing and account numbers for direct deposit, other relevant income and expense, statements of total child care payments, child care provider’s ID number, property tax bills for 2014, heating bills with names and addresses of providers, and 2013 tax returns, if available.
