Former Dorr businessman Dennis Hoeksema, age 93, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 19.
A loving, and caring man, Dennis was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He found great joy in spending time with his children and watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow.
Dennis grew up working in the family hardware store in Dorr. He and his brother Ron took it over from their father, Reinder, and ran it for many years before retiring. Dennis also proudly served as a United States Army veteran, where he played the trumpet in the Army band. He also served as a Cadet counselor for more than 30 years.
He is survived by his daughter Sherry Yff, his daughter Cindy Visser and her husband, Ken Visser; his brother John (Mary) Hoeksema, his sister-in-law Gert Hoeksema; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dennis was married for 63 years to his wife, Marcia, who preceded him in death in 2016. Also preceding him are his sisters Carol and Marlene, and brothers Jim and Ron.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at the Stroo Funeral Home, 1095 68th St. SE, Grand Rapids. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral
