Doris E. Brahlek, 80, formerly of Hopkins, died Friday, Jan. 15, at her home in Cheshire Township.
Doris was born Oct. 24, 1935, in Monterey Township, the daughter of Alford and Katherine (Soughders) Layton. During her 80 years, she held membership at many churches: Monterey Center United Methodist Church, Lansing Avenue Baptist Church and Pathway Community Church both in Jackson; Friendship Bible Church in Hopkins, currently at Horseshoe Bible Church in Grand Junction.
She graduated from Hopkins High School, Class of 1953, and attended Bethel College in Mishawaka. Doris worked for the Northwest School System for more than 25 years as a bus driver, custodian and lunch room helper.
Surviving are her husband, Pastor Don Miller; 4 children: Lois and Steve Manda, Steve Brahlek, Phil Brahlek, Ruth and David Nichols; 12 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; her brother, Ronald and Julia Layton; 2 sisters: Dorothy and Cliff Harrington, and Donna and Dick Miller; many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her first husband of 55 years, Jack D. Brahlek.
Friends may meet with the family from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at the Gorden Funeral Residence, Allegan Chapel, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Pastor Len Schildroth will officiate. Interment in Maplewood Cemetery, Hopkins Township.
Memorials may be made to the Horseshoe Bible Church.
