Jeffrey Lee Levering, age 65, of Wayland, died Thursday, Oct, 24, after a brief battle with cancer.

Jeff was a compassionate and gentle man who loved his family deeply. He was a devoted father to Shane and Shiloh.

He loved heavy rock concerts and car shows with Shane and looked forward to special meals that Shiloh would make for him. He and his wife, Jan, best friends since 1980, had many great adventures together.

He was a night owl with a sweet tooth and he loved sneaking his sons out on late night grocery trips that ended with a sundae at McDonald’s. He loved reading and watching sci-fi movies with his sons.

With his calm and gentle nature, Jeff was well suited to nursing and he was proud to be an RN. His career in nursing ranged from neonatal ICU to geriatrics, covering both ends of the nursing spectrum. His nursing passion, however, was in hospice care. He spent the majority of his career caring for many families, learning about his patients and families so he could support them as they said goodbye to their loved ones.

He is survived by his spouse, Jan, children, Shane and Nicolai Shiloh, sisters, Vicki Levering and Val Levering, sister-in-law Sue (Brad) Shuck, brothers-in-law Dave (Linda) Vander Woude and James Vander Woude, many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Eloise Levering, father and mother-in-law, Tinus and Gertrude Vander Woude and brother-in-law, Bob Vander Woude.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 pm and 6 to 8 pm Thursday, Nov. 7, at the United Church of Wayland, 411 East Superior St. His celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. the following day, Friday, Nov. 8, with a luncheon following the service.
